Schools
Our
Country House is an experience not to be missed by school
children. Located in a quiet, safe village it has its own
grounds for activities and amazing accomodation
to sleep smaller school groups of 12 to 18.
The
village of Leverton offers historical study of rural life
demonstrating the changing patterns of farming communities,
the influence of building technologies, government and the
church. The house itself dates back to 1681 and is an old
school, still containing many original features such as the
old school pegs.
From
the house there are a number of walks through the villages
which are still very much a rural farming community.
Further
a field, Robin Hoods Sherwood Forest is
20 mins, with forest walks, the Great Oak, a visitor
centre with permanent displays, or purchase the CD based
Robin Hood Trail for a self tour around his
infamous haunts.

Visit
the Tuxford Windmill (5m) and take the
tour to see a real working windmill operated by
a real miller, then try some of the produce in
the tea shop before buying from the range of top
quality, hand milled products.
Or
try a little further a field to the Watermill
at Ollerton, a working water mill with a
museum and the no1 tea shop in Britain as
awarded by the British Tea Council, but its best
to book in busy periods. |
| Gainsborough
Old Hall in
nearby Gainsborough is on the route of the
Pilgrim Trail, a self guided tour of the Pilgrim
Fathers, founders of modern day America. The
Retford Museum, about 5 miles away, recently
refurbished is also part of the tour, don't miss
the ancient fishing boat or the room of
yesteryear. |
