Cycling in Nottinghamshire

Cycle route 3.  A long distance route.

Through quiet villages taking in Clumber Park, Sherwood and the Great Oak, Laxton village and The Holocaust Centre. 43m

Starting at South Leverton head south to Treswell. Turn left towards Cottam and second right as you pass out of the village towards Rampton. Continue South through the village towards Laneham, where you turn right towards East Drayton. From here take the road towards Retford, taking the turn left after a little while towards Upton, Askham and onto East Markham, taking care in crossing the A57.

Continuing in the same direction brings you to the windmill at Tuxford where you continue on through the village taking the road to Egmanton. By the village green you will find the original village prison with a single cell.

The road dips now as the terrain becomes a little more varied passing through Egmanton and on into Laxton. This village still continues strip farming and there is a museum next to the pub in the centre of the village.

Turn right up the high street then toad lane before taking the right fork to Ollerton. This takes you passed the Holocaust centre before reaching the main A6075 and into the main town. However almost immediately take the Newark Road on the left, bringing you through to the A616 where you head straight over along Rufford Lane passed the golf course and the holiday village before emerging onto the A614. On your left is Rufford Park. Head South along the A614 then take the first right bringing you passed Centre Parcs and on through into Edwinstowe, famed for its Robin Hood legends.

Head North along Swincote Road and past the Robin Hood Visitor Centre and site of the Great Oak. At the A616 head right then immediately left and cross into the Thoresby Estate. Follow the trak north to north-east then take the left fork taking you around the East end of Thoresby Lake crossing further upstream. Head directly north through the forest towards Hardwick village to follow the way marked route turning right to cross the A614 at the level crossing and cross into Cross lane where you now cross the A1, with great care.

Now follow brick yard road towards Retford taking the right turn towards Eaton and across the A638 towards Headon and onto Bottom Woodbeck and on to Treswell cycling back into South Leverton on the road you originally started.
