Robin Hoods Sherwood Forest is 20 mins by car, with forest walks, the Great Oak, a visitor centre with permanent displays, or purchase the CD based Robin Hood Trail for a self tour around his infamous haunts.

Visit the Tuxford Windmill (5m) and take the tour to see a real working windmill operated by a real miller, then try some of the produce in the tea shop before buying from the range of top quality, hand milled products.

Or try a little further a field to the Watermill at Ollerton, a working water mill with a museum and the no1 tea shop in Britain as awarded by the British Tea Council, but its best to book in busy periods.

Gainsborough Old Hall in nearby Gainsborough is on the route of the Pilgrim Trail, a self guided tour of the Pilgrim Fathers, founders of modern day America. The Retford Museum, recently refurbished is also part of the tour, don't miss the ancient fishing boat or the room of yesteryear.

Clumber Park with its beautiful lake at the centre is one of the largest parks in Europe with miles of tracks for cycling and walking as well as housing a visitor centre and cafe. Bikes can be hired from the bike hire centre by the main National Trust house. Nearby is the Rufford estate with its house and grounds to explore.

Retford is the nearest town (4m) with many attractive Georgian and Victorian buildings and a fine market square with impressive Town Hall. It has a good market on Thurs, Fri & Sat, a range of traditional shops, farmers markets once a month and arty shops as well as some excellent modern stores. There is a town walk, a museum and several theatres, including the Majestic.  Supermarkets include Morrisons on the ring road to the North of the town.

Lincoln is about 20 minutes drive away from the holiday home and is wonderful place to spend a day or so. From the olde worlde shops on 'The Steep' to the large Castle and Cathedral

Newark has a Castle with open air concerts some Sunday afternoons, river trips to see the wildlife and a multitude of Tea shops and Restaurants including a floating pub! A must when visiting the holiday home.

Southwell is an interesting city and is the smallest Cathedral city in the UK.

The local church in Clayworth is home to the Tranquir Murals. These spectacular paintings are the largest of their kind in the East of England.
Long distance walks include The Chesterfield Canal, The Trent Valley Way and The Robin Hood Way. A national cycle route passes the door.

Warner Bros multi screen cinemas can be found in Lincoln and Doncaster.

Superbowl is available in Lincoln and Doncaster.

Trent Port family restaurant in Gainsborough, approx 6 miles from the holiday home has a Brewster Bear Activity Centre.

There are indoor play facilities in Lincoln and Gainsborough. (The Play Barn in Lincoln is to be recommended as it caters for all ages including adults!!!)

Retford, Gainsborough and Doncaster have Leisure Centres. The Dome at Doncaster is the largest in the north east and offers a Lagoon pool; ice-skating and a climbing wall.

The East Coast resorts of Skegness, Cleethorpes etc are approx 1hr away.

There are Golf Courses at Retford, Gainsborough, Lincoln, Market Raisen, Mansfield, Worksop, Sherwood Forest, Nottingham & Newark. Rufford Park has Golf Days.

Horse Racing makes a great fun day out for a group and you will be pleased to know that Lincoln, Southwell, Market Raisen, Doncaster and Nottingham are all accessible. There are 9 Golf courses within a short drive including at Retford and Gainsborough. The Trent offers some excellent fishing or there are a variety of lakes and canals that may be fished.
